Abstract
285,362. Schmidt'sche Heissdampf- Ges. Feb. 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 235,538. Fireboxes.-In a locomotive boiler having a water-tube firebox forming a separate high-pressure boiler as described in the parent Specification, groups of water-tubes 17 are arranged inside the firebox additional to those forming the sides and crown. The additional tubes are connected to upper and lower headers 19, 18, which either communicate directly with the steam drum 3 or, when steam is generated by the circulation of steam through heating tubes 15, with intermediate drums 10 connected to the heating tubes. The tubes 4, 7 forming the walls of the combustion chamber and of the duct-like chamber between the grate and the tube-plate of the lowpressure section of the boiler are connected at their upper ends to the intermediate drums 10 and at the lower ends to longitudinal headers 1, 9. Front floor tubes 8 are connected to transverse headers 12, 13, and rear floor tubes are connected to the transverse firebox header 2 and to a transverse header 11. A baffle 22 is placed in the space 21 between the addition tubes to deflect the gases through the tubes on both sides.
