Abstract
380,335. Compound steam boilers. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF-GES., 2, Rolandstrasse, Wilhelmsh÷he, Cassel, Germany. Jan. 18, 1932, No. 1483. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1931. [Class 123 (ii).] In a compound locomotive boiler comprising a high-pressure water-tube boiler and a lowpressure smoke-tube boiler, the drum 1 of the high-pressure boiler is supported at its front end in a cylindrical shell or ring 10 secured to the low-pressure boiler. A space is left between the front end of the drum 1 and the tube plate 13 of the low-pressure boiler to afford access through an aperture 14 in the ring 10 to the manhole in the end of the drum. The rear end of the drum is slidably supported in a ring 6 fixed to the rear plate 8 of the firebox. Wall plates closing the sides of the flue passage between the firebox and the smoke-tube boiler are secured to the drum 1 and to the tube plate 13 and are slidably supported on the longitudinal members of the locomotive frame. The ring supporting the front end of the drum 1 may extend through the upper part of the smoke-tube boiler, the drum being secured to the ring near either of the tube plates of the boiler. The high pressure boiler may be indirectly heated by steam coils 3 communicating with the firebox water-tube boiler.
