[Class 123(ii)] A steam generator comprises one or more horizontal firetube water boilers or economizers 9, a water drum 28 transversely mounted upon and in communication with the latter, and a steam drum 35 which is disposed parallel with the drum 28, is connected to it by a bank of steam-generating tubes 36, and is provided with a downcomer 42, only partly shown, having branches 44 connected to the bottom of said boilers 9. The generator has a refractory housing 7 including an upright baffle wall 11 which defines a combustion chamber 12 fired by oil burners 13 and locates the fronts of the boilers 9, the latter being actually supported by members 10. The boilers 9 preferably comprise a cylindrical shell, to which end or crown sheets 15 are butt-welded at 16, Fig. 5, and fire tubes 17, the ends. of the latter being expanded into holes 18 in the sheets 15, and then swaged over into counterbored portions 20 of said holes 18. The connection between the drum 28 and each boiler 9 consists of abutting machined flanges 29, 30 with rivets 31 and an inner expanded liner 32.
