Abstract

326,269. K³ppers, H. Dec. 19, 1928. Mould and ladle heating furnaces.-A furnace for producing hot gases for drying moulds or heating ladles, smelting-furnaces, and the like comprises a down-draught gas producer 16 detachably connected by wedge fastenings 18 with a burner unit 20 to which preheated air is supplied from a chamber 21, the supplies of air to the burner and the producer being independent of each other. The chamber 21 receives air from a fan 23 through a conduit 26, the hot air escaping into the combustion space 22 through tangential passages 21<a>. The fan 23 also supplies air for gasification through a flue 27 which is fitted with a valve 30 and delivers into a preheating chamber 29 having outlets 32 to the producer. A modification is described in which the producer has an open top so that the air for gasification is drawn in from the atmosphere by the suction of the jets 21a, the chamber 21 being, in this case, connected to a compressed air main.
