Abstract

651,784. Furnaces for supplying hot gases for drying. SIMONSEN, C. U. Aug. 27, 1947, No. 23685. [Class 64(i)] A combustion chamber 10 is formed with a lining of refractory material 12 and a thickened bed 32. The flame from a downwardly inclined burner is directed on to the inclined face of the bed 32 and the gases issue through a port 30, offset upwardly from the axis of the burner, into a conical nozzle 20. The duct 28 is connected to a suction fan so that a flow of cooling air passes between the chamber and a surrounding casing 24 and mixes with the combustion products in the duct and air is drawn into the burner through holes 44. Fuel oil is pre-heated in a coil 48 which may be swung into the duct 28. The cooling air space is provided with a plurality of dampers arranged in two groups for simultaneous operation by hand-wheels.
