Abstract

231,731. Lilge, F. July 30, 1924. Atmospheric gas burners; gas supply.-A gas burner for furnace comprises a mixing-chamber 2 supplied with gas and air having opposite or similar whirling movements through concentric passages 1, 1<a> respectively, and provided with a convex baffle 6 having curved guide ribs 5 adapted to reverse the predominating or resultant direction of rotation of the mixture as it passes into the fire-box. The passages 1, 1<a> may be provided with screws 3, 17 of opposite pitch, the passage 1<a> communicating with a tangential inlet pipe 4. The guide ribs 5 may have an increasing pitch in the direction of flow of the mixture, and they, or the central core of the baffle 6, may be thicker on the outlet side so that the cross-sectional areas of the passages between them is reduced towards that side. The baffle 6 is made of fire-brick or other refractory material, and the mixing-chamber 2 is provided with a fire-proof lining 7.
