Abstract
363,396. Pulverulent, liquid, and gaseous fuel furnaces. WHITE, W. A. and WHITE'S MARINE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., White Engineering Works, Prince Consort Road, Hebburn-on-Tyne. Sept. 11, 1930, Nos. 27174 and 35013. [Class 51 (i).] A furnace front suitable for use in pulverulent fuel furnaces comprises a conical casting t having the usual venturi u at its centre and formed with an arcuate peripheral air duct v which extends around more than the upper half of the furnace mouth and is exposed to the radiant heat of the furnace. The burner comprises an annular body a more or less pearshaped in cross section having a tangential fuel inlet c and enclosing a slidable air inlet d controlled by an adjustable plate i. The body a is preferably integral with an annular air inlet m surrounding the fuel nozzle b and enclosed in an air-heating casing 5. A cone 3 guiding the air to the inlet m may be fitted with swirling vanes 4. Swirling vanes may also be arranged in the air inlets d, m. Some of the air heated in the duct v is used for the conveyance of the fuel through the body a and some forms part of the secondary air supply. Additional air may be supplied through a pipe 6 at the centre of the burner. The casting t is preferably formed in two parts jointed at 7, an opening 8 being formed in the lower part of the casting to allow access to the furnace by a trunk 9. The Provisional Specification state that the invention may be applied to the combustion of liquid or gaseous fuel. Specification 366,608 is referred to in one Provisional Specification.
