Abstract

283,916. Riley Stoker Corporation. Jan. 20, 1927, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel burners.-Pulverized fuel and air are supplied to a chamber 35 through a tangential inlet 36 and pass to the furnace through a pipe 14, a series of inclined guide vanes 40 being provided at the outlet from the chamber and a fuel-spreading device 56 comprising inclined radial vanes 57 being arranged at the outlet of the pipe 14. The secondary air is supplied, usually under forced draught, through a casing 18 so as to enter the furnace opening 11 around the pipe 14. The secondary air supply may be controlled by adjustable dampers 20 and is caused to whirl either in a similar or an opposite direction to the primary air issuing from the pipe 14 by louvres 16 pivotally mounted in the casing 18. The louvres 16 approximate to a cylinder of greater diameter than the opening 11 and are thus protected against the radiant heat by the furnace wall 10. An annular plate 33 protects the outer casing plate from radiant heat. The chamber 35 is secured to an annular member 45 on the casing 18 by means of cap-screws 46 and washers 48, so as to permit the chamber to be turned to the most suitable angle for connection to the fuel supply pipe. The chamber may be made symmetrical about a central plane so as to be reversible, a closing plate 50 being secured on the outer side. The fuel spreader 56 is carried by a pipe 60 which is adjustably mounted in the plate 50 and has a removable cap 65 to allow the insertion of an oil-burning torch for igniting the burner. A peep hole 68 may be provided in the cap 65 and an inspection door 70 in the casing 18. A heavy annular member 30 of the same Internal diameter as the opening 11 stiffens the casing 18.
