Abstract

316,957. Bennis, A. W. April 2, 1928. Pulverulent-fuel burners. - Pulverulent fuel and air or gas entering the burner through an inlet 15, pass through annular passages 23, 21 fitted with inclined vanes 26 and enter through ports 20 a burner chamber 24 in which turbulence is caused by the mixture impinging on an adjustable reaction plate or base member 16 which causes complete reversal of its direction of flow as it passes towards the burner mouth 14. In modifications secondary air is supplied either under pressure or by induction to the mixture as it enters the passages 21 or as it enters the furnace and the ports 20 are controlled by an adjustable sleeve surrounding the reaction plate 16. In a further modification an axially adjustable rotating spindle carries vanes arranged in the burner mouth.
