Abstract
371,056. Liquid fuel furnaces. FRASER, R. P., 20, Margravine Gardens, Barons Court, London. Jan. 23, 1931, No. 2298. [Class 51 (i).] An oil burning apparatus comprises an atomizer 1, Figs. 1 and 3, delivering oil sprayed by pressure or air or steam into a forwardly tapering tube 3 or venturi 6 adjustable axially in a casing 5 secured to the front plate 2 of the boiler or furnace, hot air and combustion products being drawn from the combustion space into the tube or venturi through the passage between an inner tube 4 or the venturi 6 and the casing 5. The ignition point is thereby maintained constant at the small end of the tapered tube or at the throat of the venturi. The venturi or casing may be divided by one or more partitions or vanes. In the construction shown in Figs. 7 and 8, air is drawn through the corner passages 8 formed between the circular end of the venturi 6 and the rectangular casing 5 and the flame is divided by divergent vanes 7, which also act as vaporizing surfaces. A pilot gas jet 9 or an electric sparking device is provided between the vanes for ignition purposes. A shield 12 at the front of the casing prevents the air flow over the external surface of the casing from affecting the flame. In another construction the casing and a forwardly tapering tube provided with lateral air admission apertures are formed as an integral unit.
