Abstract

665,770. Liquid-fuel burners. CHAUVEAU, J. May 9, 1949. [May 12, 1948; April 28, 1949] Nos. 12384/49 and 12385/49. Class 75 (i). A liquid fuel burner unit for furnaces comprises an atomizing type burner 26, Fig. 1, arranged to project a flame axially through a flame tube 33 having inlet ports 25 for combustion air and extending through a vertical boiler casing 21 to form a substantially annular steam head surrounding that portion of the flame tube 33 within which combustion takes place, a steam connection 28, 29 for supplying steam or vapour generated in the steam head to the burner 26, and an inlet pipe 27 for supplying water or other liquid to the boiler sump portion. A steam superheater (not shown) is connected between the pipes 28, 29. Liquid fuel is supplied to the burner 26 through a pipe 30. Instead of being supplied with water the boiler 21 may be supplied with the same liquid fuel as that supplied through the pipe 30 or with a lighter liquid fuel. The boiler sump portion is tapered downwardly and has a removable inspection plate 31.
