Abstract
610,672. Igniting burners. TUXHORN, D. B. April 13, 1946, No. 11414. [Class 75(iii)] For igniting the combustible mixture of a burner a part of the combustion supporting medium is drawn off through a bleeder line 24, into which a gaseous fuel is fed, ignition means such as a sparking-plug being arranged to ignite the mixture at the exit end of the bleeder line. The burner, which may be a horizontal rotary oil burner, may be supplied with air through a passage 17 having a hand or electrically operated valve 20, and the inlet end of the bleeder line 24 may be arranged immediately below this valve where the pressure is greatest, so that the ignition flame is supported by a pressure exceeding the pressure of the combustion chamber. The air in the bleeder line may pass through a venturi device 28 where it injects gas from a pipe 35, the gaseous mixture then passing upwardly and being discharged from a pipe 34, forming the end of the bleeder line, the pipe 34 being earthed and receiving a central wire 21 from which sparks are emitted when a suitable circuit is closed. In a steam and hot water generating unit, temperature, steam pressure and water level controls may be provided in an electric circuit so that when certain predetermined conditions prevail a valve 36 in the gas supply pipe 35 and the sparking-plug are simultaneously turned on.
