Abstract
1,120,504. Controlling burners. ROBERTS-GORDON APPLIANCE CORP. 7 June, 1966 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 25277/66. Heading F4T. A control device 11 for the supply of air and gas to a gas burner of a heater system includes a housing or cavity 15 to which air is admitted through an air inlet chamber 16 provided with a control valve 19, the air passing through a cleaner 17, and a gas pipe 22 supplies a main burner 25 and a pilot burner 48, the gas flow to the main burner passing through a valve 29 having an element 30 mounted on a diaphragm 31 acted upon by the pressure of the air in chamber 15. Another valve 37 downstream of valve 29 is operated electrically by a thermostat located in the space to be heated and the pipe has a fixed restriction at 40, gas being discharged into a mixing duct 43 opening into the burner 25. Air enters the duct 43 through an orifice 44 adjustable by a valve plate 45 whose position is fixed to give the correct amount of air. A branch pipe 27 from the pipe 22 conducts fuel to the pilot burner 48 via a valve 49, similar to valve 29, and an electrically controlled valve 56 to a mixing duct 61 terminating in a space 61a through which an ignition spark plug extends, the plug having apertures (75) through which the combustible mixture can flow to the electrodes.
