In an air heater of the balanced flue type comprising a combustion chamber surrounded by an outer casing, a plurality of burners 3 and a pilot jet 18 within the combustion chamber (not shown) are carried by a detachably mounted plate 4 through which pass the supply pipes 7, 17 for the burners 3 and the pilot jet 18, and the pipes 7, 17 are connected to a single pipe 23 so that when the latter is disconnected from the gas main the burners 3, pilot jet 18, and plate 4 may be removed together as a unit. The plate 4 has a lighting hole 25 normally closed by a cap 26 having a transparent window, and is adapted to be secured by screws to the wall of the combustion chamber. The burners 3 are mounted on a tube 6 having a depending inlet pipe 9 threaded into aT-piece 10 clamped to the plate 4 by a shoulder on the end of the gas supply tube 7, which is also threaded into the T-piece 10. The latter contains a thermallyactuated valve 13 which is opened by a U-shaped bimetallic element 15 in response to a flame at the pilot burner 18. Control cocks 21, 22 in the pipes 7, 17 respectively are so arranged that the main cock 21 cannot be opened if the pilot cock 22 is closed. A regulating needle valve 20 is provided in the pipe 7, and a nipple 28 (not shown) is mounted on the plate 4 for testing the gas pressure in the pipe 6. Specification 645.582 is referred to.
