Class 135 [Also in Group XIII] A safety device for gas burners in which the gas supply is controlled by variations in gas pressure in a chamber above a diaphragm actuating a main valve and produced by an auxiliary valve actuated by a rod and tube thermostatic element, the element being protected against external influences by a tube. When the spring-loaded valve 36 is manually opened, gas flows from the inlet A via pipe 10 to an igniting jet 28, 42. When the jet is ignited, the heating jet 33 also lights up and heats the rod and tube element 14, 15, so that the valve 18 opens. On closing the valve 36, gas flows to the jets via the restriction 6, diaphragm chamber 2 and pipe 9, reduces the pressure in chamber 2 and allows the main valve 4 to open to pass gas to the burner F which is ignited from the jet 28 through the pilot 8. The rod and tube element is protected from draught and radiant heat by a tube 41. In a modification, the valve 18 has a double seat and the jet 28 may be replaced by a separate jet pipe within the protective tube.
