Abstract

312,380. Brand, J. J. C., and Laing, B. Jan. 27, 1928. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. - In marine locomotive, water tube or other types of boilers fired with pulverized fuel and having a preliminary combustion chamber located at the iront and externallv of the usual combustion chamber, air for secondary combustion is supplied to the preliminary combustion chamber A, Fig. 2, from an annular casing D surrounding the burner C. The casing is provided with slots d<2> controlled by a sleeve valve H and the air in passing through the slots is given a whirling moving by inclined vanes h<1>. The burner C is mounted on a hinged door E adapted to be swung aside for cleaning purposes the burner being connected to the fuel supply pipe by a flexible tube. The burner C and lower part a<5> of the preliminary combustion chamber A are inclined to direct the flame downwardly towards the slag which collects at B<1> and is maintained in a molten condition to facilitate its removal through a door a<4>. Specification 279,767 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
