Abstract

165,349. Pace, D. R., and Barclay, Curle, & Co., Ltd. July 29, 1920. Liquid-fuel furnaces; doors.-In a furnace for burning solid or liquid fuel or both, the burner is mounted on the furnace door and connected to the fuel and air &c. supplies by flexible piping; the door may thus be manipulated for solid fuel firing without removing the burner. In the arrangement shown the burners 1 are mounted on a panel 2 secured to the furnace door 5 over an opening 4 by studs 3. The air supply is controlled by adjusting the panel 2 to and from the opening; for solid-fuel firing the opening is entirely closed by the panel. Liquid fuel is supplied through a flexible connection 20 and steam or compressed air by a similar pipe 18. On the back of the panel 2 are mounted cylindrical covers 11 surrounding the burners and provided with caps attached by bayonet joints which protect the burners during coal firing.
