Combined or convertible solid-fuel and gas stoves.-A device for enabling either gas or coal to be burned in a fire-place comprises a casting or fitting consisting of plates G, G<1>, a balance weight G<2>, and a hollow axis or pivot G<3>. It is mounted in the back plate F of an open fire-place, and carries a brick X and radiants Y heated by a gas burner R, all of which are turned back into the recess behind the stove when it is desired to burn coal on the grate C. Gas is supplied to the burner R through a pipe Q and through the hollow axis G<3>, which is connected by a short length of pipe to the plug of a cock on the gas-supply pipe; as the part G is lifted, the plug of the cock is rotated to cut off the gas supply.
