Liquid-fuel furnaces. - A burner 12 is supplied with air under pressure through ports 6 in a circular plate 5 extending between the front and back plates 2, 3 of a furnace front and the supply is controlled by a rotatable ring 7 provided with ports 10 adapted to register with the ports 6. The extent to which the handle 17 may be turned to open the ports 6 and to secure efficient combustion is determined by an adjustable stop 18, Fig. 5, which is provided with serrations adapted to engage with serrations 19 on the plate 16. The ring 7 is formed in three sections bolted together and each provided with a toothed rack 9, one of which is engaged by a pinion 14 operated by the handle 17 to regulate the supply of air through the ports 6. A fixed etop 21 also serves to limit the port-closing movement of the handle. When it is desired to use natural draught, the ports 6 are closed and the air is supplied to the burner through horizontally hinged doors 26, 27 pivoted to the front plate 2. The riveted joint at the front end of the furnace flue is protected by heatinsulating material 24 held in position by a flange 23 secured to the plate 3.
