Abstract
407,920. Liquid - fuel furnaces. CASTIAUX, R., 3, Rue de Castres, Bordeaux, France. June 25, 1932, No. 18002. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 28, 1932]. [Class 51 (i).] Liquid fuel is coarsely atomized by issuing at low pressure from a vertical burner nozzle 47, into a fireclay combustion chamber 55 and burns with primary air admitted below a damper 50 which is normally held in the raised position by the fuel pressure acting on a bellows contained in the casing 28. The flames and unburnt oil are discharged from the combustion chamber through a conduit 56 into a conical nozzle 57 leading to the boiler 1 to be heated, secondary air for completing the combustion also entering the nozzle 57 and being whirled by inclined vanes 58. Combustion is initiated electrically or by burning light fuel in a channel 56<a>. Additional secondary air may be admitted through an axial conduit. The primary air is directed on to the fuel by rings 52, 53 which may carry inclined vanes. Should the temperature of the combustion chamber become excessive a fusible plug in the casing 28 releases the cover 50 to shut off the primary air supply and so extinguish the burner.
