Abstract

640,236. Liquid-fuel burners. NAGEL, T. Nov. 28, 1946, No. 35304. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Group XII] In a liquid-fuel furnace, oil is supplied by a pump 16 to an atomiser nozzle 10 surrounded by a conical hood 4 adjustable towards or away from the furnace opening 2 by means of a set-screw 12. The hood has an exit end of diameter slightly greater than that of the furnace opening and is formed with holes 6 for the admission of sufficient air to ensure ignition and vaporization of the oil within the hood, this being effected by electrodes 18 or other conventional means. Air is supplied to a wind box 20 by natural, induced or forced draught and flows through the channel 14 defined by the exit end of the hood and the edge of the furnace opening, thus creating a reduced pressure within the hood adjacent its exit to draw the ignited oil vapour into the airstream entering the furnace. The airflow may be varied by adjusting the position of the hood. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the diameter of the exit end of the hood is less than that of the furnace opening.
