Abstract
479,019. Liquid - fuel burners. KNUPFFER, M. June 24, 1936, No. 35123/37. Divided out of 477,296. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii)] The draught tube 4 of a liquid-fuel burner is formed with a slot 16 around the mounting 6 for the fuel atomizing nozzle 7 so that, after the removal of a segment 19 currying the ignition electrodes 20, 21, the tube may be slid back over the fan housing 8a to allow of access to the fuel nozzle 7 and fan blades without breaking any oil supply connections. The mounting 6 may consist of a massive metallic conductor in heat conducting relationship with a fuel preheating chamber 5 as described in Specification 477,296. Alternatively, an immersion heater may be fitted in the fuel nozzle. The draught tube is formed with flanges engaging guides 37 on the housing 8a and with an opening 12 registering with the tangential mouth 13 of the housing. The fan, fuel pump, and driving motor are preferably arranged on a common axis at right-angles to the axis of the draught tube. A pivoted damper 11, operated by the air or fuel pressure, closes the mouth 13 when the fan is idle. A multivaned swirler 17 is provided at the outlet of the draught tube. A small tube section 18 permanently secured to the front of the mounting 6 fills the slot 16 and preserves continuity of the swirler and tube 4 when the tube is in position. A cut-off valve 10 in the fuel nozzle is prevented from opening under the influence of a light spring 23 until the fuel pressure acting on a diaphragm 14 overcomes the pressure of a spring 26 and withdraws a spindle 27 arranged in a fuel tube 3 secured to the mounting 6. The segment 19 is provided with a window for viewing the spark gap and nozzle.
