Abstract
482,139. Liquid-fuel burners. DICA, SOC. ANON. DE BRULEURS ET INTERRUPTEURS AUTOMATIQUES, PULEJO, C., and STAUB, J. Oct. 1, 1936, No. 26677. [Class 75 (i)] A liquid-fuel burner mounted in a casing 2, Fig. 2, secured behind the diffuser shown in Fig. 1, comprises a block 7a carrying an adjustable nozzle 7, a tubular needle 4, and an adjustable valve 5 threaded in a stuffing box 10 on the needle 4. Liquid fuel is supplied through passages 9 to the tubular needle 4 and an atomizing agent such as air is supplied through a duct 8 to the nozzle 7, both being whirled on discharge by vanes 6a, 6 on the valve spindle and needle. Withdrawal of the valve from the nozzle 7 causes an increased discharge of air and a smaller discharge of fuel. Additional air is supplied to the burner by suction past adjustable baffle devices 15, 16 in the diffuser and casing, the tortuous air paths reducing the noise of combustion. Some of this air passes through a cone 11 on the nozzle 6 and produces a suction at the sparking plug 13 to facilitate ignition. An aperture 20 in the casing 2, normally covered by a resilient metal band allows access to the burner for adjustment. The valve 5 may be operated between abutments corresponding to maximum and minimum fuel supply through a linkage 25 by two electromagnets 22 controlled by a thermostat.
