Abstract

[Class 69 (iii)] [See also Group XI] Liquid fuel is supplied by a pipe 11 to the conical end of a tube 12 mounted on ball bearings 13 in a sleeve 14 which is carried by a cylinder 6 supported by stays 8 centrally in the burner body 1. The conical end of the tube 12 is provided with internal inclined vanes 21 for guiding the oil and with external helical vanes 20 on which impinges compressed air supplied to the cylinder 6 through an inlet 9 fitted with a regulating shutter 10. The tube 12 is consequently rotated at a high speed and the oil is atomized and intimately mixed with the air as it enters the furnace. The partial vacuum caused by the combustion of the oil in the furnace draws secondary air through openings 3 at the rear of the burner body 1 and a rotary movement opposite to that of the primary air is communicated to the secondary air by fixed helical vanes 23 inclined approximately at 90‹ to the vanes 20. The openings 3 may be regulated by an adjustable apertured disc 4.
