Abstract

299,532. Marion. Steam Shovel Co., Cowardin, S. P., and Cowardin, H. A. Aug. 2, 1927. Spray burners. - A liquid-fuel sprayer for use in internal-combustion engines and in furnaces comprises a member 2, having a passage 31 for liquid fuel , a smaller passage 28 for air, and a spindle 11 which operates simultaneously a valve 20, admitting fuel to an atomizing chamber 21 and a valve 22 allowing the " fog " of atomized fuel and the air, which has entered by tangential passages 29, to escape from the device. The sizes of the passages and the oil admitted is greater than that of the air, onl admitted is greater than that of the air, e.g. the composition of the " fog " may be 0.075 lbs. of air to 0.6 lbs. of oil. The air is admitted at 34, and through a chamber 27, the top of which is formed by a flexible diaphragm 10 attached to the spindle 11 so that the air pressure tends to close the valves. The air is admitted to the chamber 21 through an annular chamber 26 and passages 29, which are tangential to the chamber 21. The direction of the discharge is controlled by a pin 37 which may be horizontal and slope downwards. When the device is to be used in a furnace the spindle 11 is operated by an adjusting -screw, not shown, bearing on its end; the valve 22 may be replaced by a needle valve. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 282,342, [Class 7 (iii), Internalcombustion engines, Carburetting apparatus &c. for].
