Abstract
652,520. Liquid fuel burner. CLARKSON, A. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30182. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1947.. [Class 75(i)] An oil burner having radial fuel nozzles arranged to deliver gaseous fuel streams into a combustion chamber, a vaporizing chamber placed above and heated by the flames from the nozzles to vaporize oil to provide the gaseous fuel and means defining separate air passages surrounding the discharge ends of the nozzles has the discharge orifice of each nozzle eccentrically arranged to the axis of its associated combustion air passage so that different amounts of air are supplied at different locations to the fuel streams discharged from the nozzles. Liquid fuel is supplied from a pipe 32 on to a retarding surface 34 whence it passes into a chamber 26 where it is vaporized, the vapour passing through orifice 27 into chamber 22 and through nozzles 23 into a combustion chamber 45 of a fire-pot 14. Combustion air passes through an orifice 17 and orifices 29, equal in number and eccentrically arranged to nozzles 23 (Fig. 4), into combustion chamber 45. Additional air, which tends to cool the fire-pot 14 as it passes through an annular space 15, enters the combustion chamber 45 through holes 49. A flange 37 secured in tube 33 at its outer end restricts the amount of air entering the chamber 26. A baffle 36 is located within chamber 26 opposite the discharge end of passage 33. The burner is started by igniting with a torch, through a normally closed opening 43, a pad 41 which is saturated with oil supplied from chamber 26 through a tube 38, a groove 39 and tube 40 and along strip 42. Specifications 590,668 and 592,027 are referred to.
