Abstract
309,641. Clarke, Chapman, &. Co., Ltd., and Woodeson, W. A. Jan. 19, 1928. Pulverulent-fuels, spray, and atmospheric gas burners.-In a gaseous, liquid, colloidal, or pulverized fuel burner of the type in which a casing surrounds the delivery end of the fuel supply pipe and air enters between the pipe and the casing prior to encountering velocity retarding means producing an intimate mixture of the fuel and air, examples of which are described in Specification 278,168, a series of inclined holes or ducts are formed at or near the extreme end of the casing to admit air to accelerate combustion. Figs. 1 and 5 show pulverized fuel burners in which end of the casing 1 which surrounds the fuel supply pipe 19 and is fitted with a deflector 10 is formed with inclined holes 2 admitting air from a space 4 formed between the casing 1 and another casing 5. The space 4 communicates with the hood 15 through which air is supplied to the casing 1. A slide 18 may be provided for regulating the amount of air passing to the space 4 and a hit-or-miss device 17 is provided for regulating the air passing direct to the casing 1. The deflector 10 may be provided with hollow vanes conducting air from the space 4 and delivering it either forwardly into the mixture or through radial holes 12. Air may also be supplied to the fuel mixture through upwardly directed holes 20 in the casing so as to lift the stream and prevent spilling.
