Pulverulent-fuel, blowpipe, and spray burners. - A combined coal-dust, gas, and oil burner comprises a central oil supply pipe 6, a coke-oven or blast-furnace gas supply passage c surrounding the pipe 6 and having a stationary nozzle 4, a coal-dust and airsupply passage b surrounding the passage c and having a stationary nozzle 3, an air-supply passage a surrounding the passage b and having a stationary nozzle 1, and slidable nozzles 5, 2 arranged in the passages c, a respectively adapted to be moved along guide-ribs 7, 8 into contact with the nozzles 4, 1 so as to regulate or shut off entirely the supply of gas or air issuing from the passages c, a. Air is supplied to the passage o at a constant rate sufficient to transport the maximum amount of coal-dust required to be burnt when coal-dust alone is being consumed and to support the combustion of gaseous or liquid fuel supplied in minimum quantities when the coal-dust is shut off. As additional fuel is supplied the nozzle 2 is moved away from the nozzle 1 to admit additional air from the passage a. The oil supply is regulable by means of a needle valve fitted in the pipe 6 or an external valve. The burner is stated to be suitable for use in reverting flame furnaces in which it is required to maintain a constant distance of throw for the flame under varying fuel consumptions. The Specification as under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that burners may be constructed in which the parts for the supply of one or another of the fuels are omitted. This statement does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
