Abstract

335,413. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Fuller Lehigh Co.). Oct. 24, 1929. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. - A burner 5 supplied with a mixture of pulverized fuel and air is flared outwardly in a horizontal plane and the issuing stream of fuel and air is divided into upper and lower streams by a deflector comprising blocks 16 bolted to tubes 2 forming part of the furnace wall. The sides of the blocks 16 facing the burner outlet 8 are rounded as indicated at 20. Flattened streams of air from the casing 31 surrounding the burner are delivered through damper-controlled passages 10, 11 above and below the burner so as to meet the upper and lower streams of fuel and air. The burner is ignited through a port 32.
