Abstract

1368536 Burners KOEHRING CO 29 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 14751/72 Heading F4T A burner head comprises an oil supply passage 92, 120 leading to an outlet 118 from which oil is aspirated by air supplied from a compressor 54 to the burner head through inlet 98 and passing through inclined passages 114 and chamber 112 to a nozzle outlet 116. The burner is located at one end of a burner tube 80 to which auxiliary air is supplied through openings 130 having curved guide surfaces 132 to swirl the air. A frusto-conical flame retention head 138 is located in the burner tube and has auxiliary air inlets in the form of holes 140 and slits 142 each housing one edge bent outwardly to provide vanes 150 which further swirl the air, the direction of swirl induced by vanes 150 being the same as that produced by the surfaces 132. The burner tube forms part of a portable heater and extends into a combustion chamber 58, a flange 78 on the burner tube sealing against the end of chamber 58. The combustion chamber is located within a shell 30 supported on an oil tank 4 from which oil is supplied through tube 18 to oil inlet 94. A fan 52 draws air into the shell 30 through an opening 40 provided with a filter 42. The burner is ignited by striking an arc between a pair of electrodes located adjacent the burner nozzle 102.
