Abstract

313,368. Yarrow, H. E. Aug. 24, 1928. Pulverulent-fuel burners.-In order to obtain a short flame one or more of the constituents of the fuel mixture of a. pulverulent-fuel burner is passed along a channel having a Venturi-constriction provided with an opening or openings connecting the channel with a tube leading to the combustion space of the furnace. In the burner shown the pulverized fuel and primary air entering through the inlet C passes along a passage M between an outer tube H and an inner tube E and is met by the secondary air entering between inclined vanes D before entering the furnace at a discharge aperture S. The tube E is closed at its outer end by a flat or coned plate 0 and is made in two parts. having their adjacent edges shaped to form at a Venturi constriction in the passage M an annular constricted nozzle or nozzles N, through which some of the ignited fuel from the furnace will be drawn. The furnace end of the tube E is preferably fitted with an adjustable extension piece G. The inner part of the whirling fuel entering the furnace is consequently drawn back towards the tube E while the outer part is also drawn back by the reduction of pressure at a sleeve U surrounding the discharge aperture S. Helical or inclined vanes may be provided in the passage near its outlet. The air entering through the vanes D is regulated by means of a sliding damper P. The pulverized fuel and primary air may alternatively be introduced through the vanes D and the secondary air through the passage C.
