Abstract
646,805. Burners. BLANCHARD, P. Aug. 27, 1947, No. 23753. Convention date, March 10, 1942. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Group XII] A method of heating a furnace consists in projecting within the furnace a sheet of fuel substantially parallel to and close to one of the furnace walls and bringing primary air into contact with the sheet of fuel on the wall side and secondary air on the side remote from the wall, the primary air being caused to follow a helical path and the secondary air being given a radial velocity substantially greater than its axial velocity. As shown in Fig. 1 fuel is supplied from conduit 5 and emerges from the burner by holes 6, secondary air with or without the addition of oxygen being supplied under pressure through conduit 10 and issuing through holes 11. Primary air enters an annular chamber 8 provided with blades 9 which impart a helical motion to the stream which then flows along an annular passage 3 to the furnace. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a modified form of burner, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), provided with three concentric tubes 21, 22, 23. Secondary air is supplied through a conduit 24 to tube 21, the position of which is adjustable by means of handle 28, and emerges through longitudinal holes 47 and between members 41 and 45 at the end of the burner. Pulverulent fuel may be introduced at inlet 30 and gaseous fuel at inlet 32. Adjustment of handle 28 regulates the annular aperture, between members 57 and 41, through which the pulverulent fuel passes. Liquid fuel may be introduced into the gaseous fuel at 53. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
