Abstract
291,908. McKean, J. G., and Jones, R. F. March 23, 1927. Liquid-fuel fittings. - Relates to the control of the secondary air supply in a liquid-fuel furnace front. Vanes 1. extending close up to, but not into, the furnace opening 4 and adapted to impart a swirling motion to the secondary air, are located be. tween an outer casing 9 and an intermediate casing 2 and are axially adjustable by means of rods 8 and a supporting ring 7. The casings 9 and 2 are carried respectively by the inner front 5 and the outer front 6, and there is a third or inner casing 17 within which the atomizer is mounted. The casing 9 stops short of the front 6 leaving a gap for air admission (forced or induced) under control of a valve 11, and the casing 2, which extends approximately to the furnace opening 4, is carried so as to leave a primary air supply opening controlled by a valve 15, air valves being provided at 16. The inner ends of the vanes 1 may be cut at an angle as shown, and the casing 9, instead of being parallel, as shown in Fig. 1, may taper inwards, so that the vanes when drawn outwards leave a certain amount of clear space through which air passes without being swirled. This is shown in Fig. 3, which illustrates the application to a Howden forced draught front,.
