This invention relates to improvements in paint burners, and has for its object to prof' vide a burner which is inelosed within a removable wind shield', thereby keeping the burner hot at all times and preventing the burner from being cooled off by the air and the flame extinguished when the burner is used in the open.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of the parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specifications and pointed out in detail in thevappended claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification andin which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof l represents the receptacle for holding the gasoline having a pipe 2 at its lower end leading to the burner 3. The said tank l is provided with a bulb or other suitable means at for forcing air into the said receptacle l and a valve 5 to cut off the air passage after the tank has been filled with suflicient air. The burner 3 is provided with the usual needle valve 6 to control the flow of gasolineto the burner 3. Under the burner 3 is the usual receptacle 7 which is filled with gasoline to heat the burner suiciently to start the operation. The wind shield is composed of two sections 8 and 9, the said section 8 being held 1927. Serial No. `200,485.

The rear section 8 of the wind shield is provided with vents lil on each side thereof.
In Figure 6 of the drawing I have shown a modification of the front section 15 of the wind shield, the saine being tapered to a narrow opening le' for the purpose of throwing a flat flame. Y

After the receptacle l has been supplied with air and gasoline and the burner 3 heated in the usual manner the needle valve (i is opened, which starts the flame from the burner 3, the said burner 3 being entirely surrounded by the sections 8 and 9 `of the wind shield will lreep the said burner heated and prevent the burner fromr being cooled off and the flame extinguished, when the device is used in the open.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is The combination with a burner, of an air and gasoline receptacle, a pipe connecting said receptacle with the burner, a needle valve to control the flow of air and gasoline to the burner, a wind shield surrounding said burner and comprising two sections, one of which sectionsis removably fitted to thexneedle valve stem and is provided with a cut out portion which fits around the lower portion of the burner and an annular shoulder on its outer surface and the other section being removably iitted over the end of the first named section and adapted to impinge against said annular shoulder.
