Abstract
1465173 Burners BABCOCK & WILCOX CO 9 May 1974 [9 May 1973] 20458/74 Heading F4T A burner for mounting at an opening 50 in a furnace wall 12 includes a nozzle 45 through which air and pulverized fuel is passed, an annular passage 95 through which secondary air is passed under the control of dampers 104 operated by a handle 108 and vanes 114 operated by a handle 118, and a further annular passage 97 through which secondary air is passed under the control of dampers 110 operated by a handle 115. The handles which are independently operable are mounted outside an air box 42 surrounding the burner and supplied with air heated by heat exchange with the flue gases, a portion of the heated air being passed through a cool pulverizer (56) to convey the fuel to the nozzle. Flow through the nozzle is variable by movement of the conical rod end 90 relative the Venturi surface 80A. An igniter assembly 120 and an observation tube 122 are provided. The burner is fluid cooled by tubes 70. Nozzle 45, passage 95 plus nozzle 45, and passage 97 respectively supply 15-20% stoichiometric air, 35-45% stoichiometric air, and 55-65% stoichiometric air.
