450,531. Mounting burners on furnaces. BRITISH HARTFORD - FAIRMONT SYNDICATE, Ltd., 142, Audrey House, Ely Place, London, and WARDLEY, T., 6, Rockware Avenue, Greenford, Middlesex. Oct. 19, 1934, No. 30012. [Class 75 (i)] [See also Group XII] A furnace is provided with a liquid or gaseous fuel burner which projects into an air port or passage in a direction transverse to the direction of flow of the air through the port so that the burner nozzle is located substantially in the middle of the air stream and which is movably mounted so that it may be moved into or out of the air port or passage. The invention is shown applied to a regenerative furnace having at each end a burner E adapted to extend into the port B when that port is supplying air and to be withdrawn vertically when the port is exhausting hot combustion products. The burner comprises an inner tube E<2> having a nozzle E<3> and connected with a fuel supply pipe by a flexible tube J and an outer tube E having a nozzle E<1> and connected with a primary air supply pipe L by a flexible tube K. Helical fins or webs M impart a whirling motion to the air. The burner is mounted on carriers vertically slidable in guides G and is attached by a cable to a counterweight H. If desired, each end of the furnace may be provided with a set of burners receiving fuel from separate pipes J<1> and primary air from a common pipe L.
