Abstract

380,502. Gas and spray burners. INTERNATIONAL CHROMIUM PROCESS CORPORATION, 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. June 17, 1931, No. 17618. Convention date, Feb. 24. [Class 75 (i).] An open-hearth metallurgical furnace 1 is fired by a plurality of downwardly-directed gas or oil burners 8 arranged in staggered relationship in two rows along the crown 3 of the furnace, each burner comprising, as shown, a fuel conduit 24, communicating through a valve 11 with a branch 10 from the main supply pipe 9, a surrounding casing 21 to which primary air is delivered from a main 12 through a branch 13 fitted with a damper 14, and a hood 20 which surrounds the lower end of the burner and is supplied, through a conduit 15 fitted with a damper 16, with preheated secondary air from a main 5 leading from a recuperator. The lower end of the casing 21 carries a deflector plate 22 which is formed with an orifice 23 in alignment with the fuel nozzle 26 and with apertures 25 for the passage of primary air into the path of travel of the fuel.
