452,204. Gas burners. BRITISH FURNACES, Ltd., and HOPKINSON, P., Derby Road, Chesterfield.-(Surface Combustion Corporation ; Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 18, 1934, No. 36240. [Class 75 (i)] [See also Group XII] In a furnace heated bv radiation from horizontal tubes 31 each fitted at its respective ends with a gas burner and a compressed-air jet exhauster, the burner comprises a central tube 36 supplied with gas under the control of a valve 38<1> and projecting into the open end of the heating tube 31, the tube 36 being surrounded by a jacket 48 to which an igniting mixture of gas and air is supplied from a valve-controlled pipe 50. In operation, the gas supplied by the central tube 36 and air, drawn in from the atmosphere by the exhauster at the outlet end of the tube 31, flow in parallel streams separated by flames produced by igniting the mixture supplied through the jacket 48 at its outlet end 46 ; combustion of the main gas and air supplies is thus delayed and the highest temperature is attained at a point intermediate the ends of each heating tube 31.
