Abstract

430,098. Liquid - fuel burners. McQUARRIE, J., 2, Ferguston Road, Bearsden, Dumbartonshire, and WALKER, P. C., 6, Malpas Drive, West Timperley, Cheshire. Dec. 18, 1933, No. 35528. [Class 75 (i)] In an oil-burning furnace the oil fuel is. atomized by and mixed with air preheated to a temperature not exceeding 400‹ F., and is afterwards mixed with two or more air currents one of which is preheated to a temperature exceeding 500‹ F. The Figure shows a burner comprising three concentric tubes 3, 4, 5, the two inner tubes 3, 4, being supplied through an elbow 12 with air preheated to about 350‹ F., while the outer tube is supplied through an elbow 11 with air preheated to say 700‹ F. The fuel is supplied to the inner tube 3 through a nozzle 6 and is atomized by the primary air stream which is swirled by a retarder 7. The mixture issuing from the tube 3 is then impinged upon by the secondary air issuing from the tube 4 and the tertiary air from the tube 5, the secondary air being swirled in the opposite direction to the primary air by helical vanes 4<a>.
