Abstract
418,395. Liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces. HURLEY, T. F., H.M. Fuel Research Station, Blackwall Lane, East Greenwich, London. July 26, 1933, No. 21034. [Class 51 (i).] In a liquid, gaseous, or pulverulent fuel furnace fitted with a burner comprising a number of Venturi nozzles 4 for the issue of fuel, alone or in admixture with air or for the issue of air alone, or both for the issue of fuel, alone or in admixture with air, and also for the issue of air alone, tertiary air is supplied through a conduit 9 fitted with a control valve 12 to passages 8 leading to the combustion chamber 3. A member 17 prevents the tertiary air from mixing with the combustion gases until it has passed a predetermined distance into the combustion chamber. In another construction, the tertiary air may be admitted to the furnace either from the secondary air chamber 5 or a separate supply chamber through ports controlled by a sliding or rotatable damper.
