[Class 25] [Also in Group XII] A bell-type heat treatment furnace 1, fired by main burners 8 supplied with primary air and gas and secondary burners 9 supplied with raw gas, is ventilated by conduits 31 reaching almost to the furnace floor, said conduits terminating in venturi throats 32 forming air-operated eductors. Compressed air is normally supplied to a series of circumferentially spaced jets in the narrowest part of the venturi, but When the furnace consumption is cut down to a minimum, the chimney pull is counteracted by air from the nozzles 50. Valves 13, 41 and 53 (normally closed) supplying gas, air to the venturi jets and air to the nozzles 50 respectively are linked to the known control device 19 which is connected to temperature responsive means 20 disposed inside the furnace. When the gas valve 13 is closed to a minimum, the air valve 41 is completely closed and the valve 53 opened, supplying air to the nozzles 50, the effect being to restrict but not to stop completely the draught through the conduits 31.
