Abstract
452,021. Gas burners and furnaces. BAKER PERKINS, Ltd., Westwood Works, Peterborough. Feb. 14, 1935, No. 4822. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1934. [Class 75 (i)] [See also Group XII] In a heating system for baking or enamelling ovens or the like wherein the products of combustion from a chamber 1, having a burner 14 adapted to mix gas and air, are re-circulated through a closed circuit 8, 12, 13, having a damper-controlled vent 10 for discharging gases in accordance with the combustion gases introduced into the circuit, gas is supplied through a pressure reducer 5 to the burner at a predetermined sub-atmospheric pressure of the order of minus two-tenths inch water column and air enters the intake 2 at atmospheric pressure, a suction device, such as an exhaust fan or impeller 7, being adapted to maintain around the outlet end of the burner during operation thereof a pressure less than the sub-atmospheric pressure of the gas. The gas flows from the pressure reducer 5 through a valve-controlled pipe 4 into a jacket 18 having outlets 19 opening into the. air nozzle 16. The air intake 2 is controlled by a slidable sleeve 17 and fixed air-swirling vanes 15 are provided. The burner is ignited by a pilot jet 23. The degree of suction is controlled by the dampers 9, 11 and the speed of the fan, and decreases automatically as the temperature of the circulating gases increases, thereby reducing the supply of the mixture without alteration of the gas-air ratio. Scavenging is effected by circulating fresh air as in starting and shutting down.
