Abstract

478,879. Preventing entry of air to furnaces. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. July 21, 1936, No. 20211. Convention date, June 10, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 23, 1937.] [Class 51 (ii)] Entry of air and escape of hot gases through the door openings of industrial furnaces are prevented by a barrier of preferably non-combustible gas supplied through nozzles 28 which are automatically brought into operative position when the door 24 is opened. The nozzles are carried by a pivotally mounted supply pipe 27 connected by links 37, 38 to a parallel-link system 32, 33 which couples the door 24 to a counterweight 36, a valve being arranged in the pipe 27 to cut off automatically the gas supply when the nozzles reach the inoperative position shown in Fig. 2. An additional supply of gas may take place through a passage 25 in the furnace sole 21, the two streams forming, in the door opening, an eddying barrier as indicated by the arrows on Fig. 1.
