Stoves having ovens which are hea-ted from a gas burner are usually so formed as to expose the burner to air movements incident to opening and closing the oven door. Where the doory is closed abruptly the draft is apt to extinguish the flame at the burner. The present invention is designed to obviate this difliculty.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Fig. 1 shows a central longitudinal section through the stove.

1 marks the top of the stove7 2 the bottom of the stove, 3 3 the end walls and 4 the side walls, 5 the fire box.A The oven is formed with the top wall 6, bottom wall 7, end wall S adjacent to the re box and an opposite end wall 9. The rear wall of the sides i forms the rear wall of the oven. The oven walls are distanced from the walls 1, 3 and 2 so as to form a flue 10 through which gases pass, the gases being discharged by way of an opening 11 to the usual pipe flue (not shown). A burner tube 12 extends from the bottom of the oven to the bottom wall 2, the bottom of the tube being in communication through an opening 22L with the atmosphere. The upper end of the tube opens into the oven. A burner 13 is arranged in the tube 12 and is supplied from a mixing pipe 14 leading to without the stove wall. The mixing pipe has the mixer 15 supplied with fuel from a jet 16. The burner is of the spider variety having the main jet openings 17 I provide a well 18 at the center of the burner, the upper end of the well having a contracted opening 19. Jets 2O lead to the bottom of this well. This well is closed against draft therethrough as shown.
The oven is provided with the usual door 1921. Serial No. 459,868.
22 as shown hinged at the bottom and has the dampered outlet 23 when used as a gas l oven. It will be understood that the oven may be used in connection witlr the fire box with an ordinary wood or coal fire and with the gas burner when desired.
By forming a protected burner closed against the draft therethrough a draft created by the closing of the door will not eX- tinguish the flame from the jets 18. This flame will normally bottom in the opening 19 but when subjected to draft the well with` the downward pressure prevents a movement of the cold air past the jet sufficient to reduce it below the ignition point. Conse` quently if the main-jets are all extinguished they are immediately re-lighted from the protected pilot.
That I claim as new is 1. In a stove, the combination of an oven; a door on the oven; a main burner for the oven having an air passage to the oven for supplying air for combustion to theburner; and a protected burner having its jets arranged in a well closed against air draft therethrough and adapted to maintain ignition of the main burner.
2. In a stove, the combination ofan oven; a door on the oven; a main burner for the oven having an air passage to the oven for supplying air for combustion to the burner; and a protected burner having its jets arranged in a well adapted to maintain ignition of the main burner, said protected burner being formed in the walls of the main burner and receiving its supply of combustible mixture from the main burner.
3. In a stove, the combination of an oven; a door on the oven; a main burner for the oven having an air passage to the oven for supplying air for combustion to the burner; and a protected burner having its jets arranged in a well adapted tomaintain ignition of the main burner, said well having a contracted opening and being closed against air draft therethrough.
