Abstract
290,391. Hentschel, H., and Greggersen, H. March 2, 1927. Blowpipe burners. - A blowpipe burner for use in cutting holes of any diameter in metal without first boring a hole in advance has a mixture of oxygen and combustible gas first supplied to both the cutting and heating jets then oxygen only to both jets, and finally the mixture, is supplied to the heating jet and oxygen only to the cutting jet. The jets may be arranged concentrically or in series. On opening valves G, F', Fig. 2, oxygen at high pressure, e.g. 1¢ to 2 atmospheres, is supplied through the valve G to an injector N to which gas at a pressure, for example, of half an atmosphere, is supplied through the valve F, the mixture passing to the heating jet through pipes M<1>, M<2> and to the cutting jet through pipes M<1>, K, L<2>, the valve H being open. To supply oxygen only to the jets a rapid action stop valve O is opened and high pressure oxygen closes a non-return valve P and so oxygen only is supplied to the jets. The valve H is then closed so as to release the valve P, whereupon the mixture is supplied to the heating jet through pipes M<1>, M<2> and oxygen to the cutting jet through pipes L<1>, L<2>. The valves are preferably operated by Bowden wires, the controls of which are grouped together. The burner is rotatably mounted in ball-bearings in a depending cranked arm on a horizontally movable slide.
