Abstract
227,649. Hera, Landsberger & Co., and Landsberger, M. Feb. 11, 1924. Blowpipe burners.-A welding and cutting burner in which the combustible gas is supplied under a lower pressure than the oxygen has a check valve 7, consisting of a light hollow goblet-shaped body, preferably of steatite, arranged in the combustible gas conduit so as to be loosely guided therein and freely movable in both directions according to the flow of the gas. Inserted on the spigot 5 for the acetylene supply is an intermediate tube 6 on the inner walls of which the check valve is guided. The closed end 11, Fig. 2, is directed towards the acetylene supply pipe. and has packing means such as a leather disc 12 serving as a valve. Flanges 13 having notches 14, to allow acetylene to pass, act as guides for the device. In the event of the mouthpiece 4 of the burner becoming clogged, thereby causing oxygen to flow back to the gas conduit 3, the check valve is forced against the valve seat 8 to close the acetylene supply pipe. The rear end 9 of the gas conduit is preferably pointed.
