Combinations of interdependent valves. - In gas-burner apparatus, the gas-valve for the main burner is interconnected with a lift-valve for controlling the gas-supply to a pilot burner, the arrangement being such that when the main-valve is opened, the pilot valve is actuated to cause the pilot flame to be momentarily enlarged for igniting the main burner. The main valve 7 controlling the supply of gas from the pipe 10 to the burner 3 has a plug 8 with a slot therethrough and is operated by a rotatable spindle 9 which carries a sprocket-wheel 31. The sprocket-wheel 31 is connected by a chain 30 to a sprocket-wheel 29 carried on a spindle 20 which is provided with a suitable operating-handle. On the spindle 20 is mounted a cam 28 which operates the pilot valve 17, which controls the gas-supply from a pipe 15 to a pilot burner 13 situated so as to project its flame across the gas issuing from the main burner 3. The valve 17 comprises a tapered-plug normally resting on a conical seating, but is provided with a hole 19 which allows sufficient gas to pass to keep the pilot flame alight. When the spindle 20 is rotated to open the main valve through the chain 30, the cam 20 is rotated and momentarily lifts the pilot valve 17, causing the pilot flame to shoot out and ignite the main burner 3. In a modification, the sprocket-wheels 29, 31 and the chain 30 are replaced by bellcrank levers and a connecting-rod respectively.
