Abstract
152,276. Clyde Valley Shipwelders, Ltd., and Carlton, J. April 10, 1920. Blowpipe burners.-In an oxy-acetylene torch or blowpipe burner in which a separate supply of oxygen can be made to the nozzzle by means of a by-pass 3 controlled by a spring-pressed valve 10 in a chamber 4, the valve lever 13, 13<a> is provided with a preferably tapered projection 16 which, when the valve is fully open, engages with a catch on the torch-barrel jacket 18 and locks the lever in position. The projection 16 has an undercut portion 19 at the top and is arranged slightly out of line with the jacket aperture 17 so as to cause the lever to be bent laterally whilst opening the valve. When the valve is fully open, the resiliency of the lever causes the undercut portion 19 to engage with the wall of the aperture 17. The acetylene and oxygen supply pipes B, C are controlled by needle valves 1, 2 respectively. In a modification, the by-pass valve is housed in the torch-jacket 18.
