Abstract

209,489. Conway, L. K. Oct. 10, 1922. Wick burners, solid-flame, flameregulating in; extinguishing.-In a burner in which a wick tube b is adapted to be raised by a pinion e and has a cap g against which the end of the wick y abuts, the top of the cap is provided with one or more holes h which permit the passage of vaporized fuel and air. The wick is ignited at flame openings f, the flame then igniting vaporized spirit escaping through the hole or holes h. The flame is extinguished by turning down the wick tube so as to close the flame openings whereupon vaporization ceases and the flame at the top of the cap is blown out or burns itself out. The cap may be flanged to limit the descent of the wick tube.
