Abstract
1,038,196. Soaking pit heating system. BRITISH FURNACES Ltd. April 16, 1963 [April 23, 1962], No. 14859/63. Heading F4B. In a soaking pit heating system, air preheated in a recuperator 31 in the exhaust flue 28 is drawn through the recuperator and delivered to the soaking pit burners 18 by an injector comprising a Venturi tube 35 and a jet 34 delivering the combustion products from a combustor 38. The air supply to combustor 38 is provided by a fan 41, and the pressure in the burner air supply manifold 23 is automatically maintained constant by altering the fuel supply to the combustor 38 without altering the air supply. This maintains the oxygen content of the air supplied to the burners 18 substantially constant. The flow of fuel and air to the burners is automatically controlled in accordance with the temperature of the soaking pit heating chamber 15 and the desired fuel/air ratio.
